Third generation racer John Egan has so far been enjoying a solid 2019-20 season campaign and it reached a whole new level at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway on Saturday night following an Australian Legend Cars Title podium finish.

The Canberra, ACT-based racer was right in the mix throughout the Australian Title deciding feature race, battling for the lead with eventual winner Rob Rawlings Jnr up until wet weather brought the race to a premature end and he had to settle for second.

“I had a great run in the Australian Title and to come away with a podium finish is very satisfying,” the 25-year-old racer said, who is currently in his third season in the Legend Car class.

“I can’t thank my team, along with all of our sponsors, enough for their ongoing support and being able to continue our solid season with an Australian Title podium finish is the perfect way to thank them.”

Egan continued by saying that his Australian Title campaign didn’t start as strong as he would have liked, due to not being able to convert a pole position start in his opening heat race to a win.

“To be honest, I was a bit nervous with it being an Australian Title and all that, so my opening heat race didn’t go according to plan and I finished back in third,” explained Egan, who in his remaining two heat races finished fourth and third respectively, which saw him start the Australian Title deciding feature race from position three.

“The Legend Cars are one of the most competitive classes in the country and due to this sometimes starting a feature race a row further back can be the difference between winning and losing.”

This Australian Title podium finish continues Egan’s solid season run, which has seen him finish second in the NSW Title at Goulburn Speedway and a pair of feature-race wins at Valvoline Raceway and at his home track: ACT Speedway.

The next Legend Cars appearance for Egan is going to be back at Valvoline Raceway on the Saturday night of March 28.
