Despite a lack of track time at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway this season, it wasn’t enough to stop youngster Blake Eveleigh from romping to victory in last Saturday night’s final round of Western Sydney Street Stockers (WSSS) Club Championship.

Despite the race being peppered with stoppages early on and Eveleigh being hounded throughout the 20-lap race distance from eventual second-place finisher Chris Marino, the former Australian RSA Street Stocker Champion took it all in his stride to record a flag to flag victory.

The feature race saw Eveleigh and Kiona Sunerton sharing the front row, Chris Marino and Shaun Davoodi in the second row and Mat Alexander and Troy Dawes on the third row. At the drop of the green flag Eveleigh, who is based in the NSW Hunter region of Maitland, immediately hit the lead and in an impressive display, managed to starve off all challenges for a strong win.

In what was a gallant drive, Marino greeted the chequered flag in second. Following this finish, he wrapped up the point standings battle in the WSSS Club Championship. This highlights what has been a great season from Marino, who also scored a minor podium finish in the NSW Title.

The final spot on the podium spot was WSSS Club Championship challenger Sunerton. The former NSW RSA Street Stocker Champion had a solid night which was topped off by qualifying second highest on points at the completion of the heat races. Despite losing second to Marino early in the feature race, Sunerton was always threatening throughout and raced her way back to third.

Shane McPhee was very impressive with a season-best drive, crossing the finish line just off the podium in fourth. After starting the feature race from position nine, he had to work hard to make his way forward and after running in third briefly, ultimately finished within striking distance of the podium.

Rounding out the top-five finishers was youngster Max Cotton. Starting from the fifth row, Cotton raced up to fourth before having a back and forth battle with Sunerton and at the chequered flag, crossing the line in seventh. Two post-race penalties elevated Cotton to fifth.

Completing the top-10 finishers was Troy Dawes, Shaun Davoodi, current NSW Champion Brendan Wakeman, Charlie Dodson and Ray Tyler. Both Davoodi and Wakeman initially finished in fifth and sixth; however, both were penalised two spots at the completion of the race.

Scott Bradley crossed the line in 11th followed ahead of the remaining finishers Jarrett Dryburgh, Anthoney Attard, Shannon Alexander, Bruce Johnson, Dave Hollier and Matthew James.

Non-finishers were Huey Vanderveen, Matt Hope, Mat Alexander, Mark Alexander, Sean Isherwood, Steven Sharpe and Stephen Kurtz.

Earlier in the night, the heat races went to Mat Alexander, McPhee, Sunerton, Eveleigh, Troy Dawes and Davoodi.

Marino claimed the WSSS Club Championship point standings ahead of Sunerton and Davoodi in second and third place respectively.

For their next appearance, the Western Sydney Street Stockers will be contesting the RSA Australian Title at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway on the Saturday night of May 12.
