Dubbo’s Morris Park Speedway in the central-west region of NSW will play host to the 2018 V8 Dirt Modified Sportsman Dubbo Showdown, supported by Burson Auto Parts, on the Sunday afternoon of June 10 in what is being billed as one of the biggest events in the history of sportsman division.

Held on the Sunday afternoon of the June long weekend, and with a significant amount of interest at this early stage, organisers are expecting a quality field of drivers for the event. Coupled with the fact that the Monday is a public holiday in NSW, it’s expected a good field of cars will be in attendance.

The Morris Park Speedway event will be taking full advantage of the long weekend by conducing the race meeting during the daylight hours with events for the V8 Dirt Modified Sportsman class beginning at 11am. The format for the event will see drivers compete in three 10-lap heat races each before the field is set for the 25-lap Burson Auto Parts Dubbo Showdown feature race.

Dirt Modifieds Australia President Darren Tindal is excited about the upcoming Burson Auto Parts Dubbo Showdown which will showcase the Sportsman class.

“It’s great that Dubbo are putting on an event for the Sportsman as we continue to make a push into the rest of NSW when it comes to V8 Dirt Modifieds,” he enthused.

“We all know that V8 Dirt Modified racing is strong in the north-east of the state and now we need to be showing the rest of the state how good the racing is, and with the upcoming Burson Auto Parts Dubbo Showdown for the Sportsman class only, fans are in for a real treat.”

The V8 Dirt Modified Sportsman class, which has been a part of the Australian speedway landscape for around five years, was introduced as an entry level point for anyone who was looking to become involved in speedway. The cars, utilising a 602 GM crate engine, has been very effective in keeping costs down and ensuring a positive future for the whole class.

Running in conjunction with the open class during race meetings, the V8 Dirt Modified Sportsmans are certainly not lacking in speed and can figure well at the pointy end of the field.
